temptation!

I had been working away, when time permitted, fairly happily on my first unit of Saracens.  But then, this morning, an email arrived from Adrian Goldsworthy, appended to which was a draft of his next article for Slingshot: “Thinking About Romans - Part Three”.  This is all about legionaries.  I won’t go into detail about the content, so as not to spoil the surprise for those who subscribe, and so as to encourage those who don’t, to do so, other than to say that these articles ought to be compulsory reading for would-be Roman (wargaming) generals.

Anyway, I am finding myself less than hugely enthusiastic about Saracens, and desperately wanting to go back and convert my remaining ‘spare’ legionaries into lanciarii - i.e. men equipped with spears (lanceae) mainly intended for throwing, rather than the heavier pila.

Ho, hum, such is the wargamer’s lot - to be tempted this way and that by ‘new & shiny’ - whether that be new figures, or new ideas!  I had thought that I was becoming less apt to be swayed by ‘new & shiny’, but it seems that this (relatively) new found discipline does not apply when it comes to Romans...

Oh Dear me!
