Andy Thorburn
Best known as the keyboard player in Blazin’ Fiddles, Andy Thorburn is one of the most skillful, versatile and sought-after pianists on the contemporary Celtic scene. He has covered just about every musical genre imaginable, from classical to country, jazz to folk, easy listening to rock’n’roll.
He has served as musical director on a string of high-profile projects; juggles numerous teaching commitments in schools, colleges and youth music festivals; is increasingly in demand as a creative manuscript typesetter, and advises the government on music curriculum development in schools.
In addition to playing with bands such as Blazin’ Fiddles (Best Live Act at the 2004 Scots Trad Music Award) and The Ghillies, he has emerged in recent years as a composer of increasing note. Andy can be heard accompanying Paul Anderson on his recent album The Strathbogie Collection, is currently performing with Babelfish and will feature on the Peatbog Faeries' forthcoming CD.

Andy Thorburn’s first solo album, ‘Piano’, was recorded at Ackergill Tower in Wick, Caithness.
The kind people at Ackergill gave full use of the Opera House, a small but beautiful venue within the grounds. Within the venue sits a nice mellow Steinway grand piano, which is what you will hear on this album.
A unique CD with all solo performances from Andy, very much ‘as is’.
This is a solo album in its true sense - music played on a solo instrument. Enjoy something a little different.
