Mark set out from Campo near the Mexican border on April 21 of this year and plans to hike along the Pacific Crest Trail to Lake Tahoe because he has a return flight out of Reno, Nevada, where he'll catch the plane bound for New Jersey. He works on construction. There's a couple months lull back there right now so he grabbed the chance to get away.

"The weather's been good out here ... you have a lot of good views. The desert's open. Back east you don't have that. The trees and the AT, they call it the long green tunnel. It's the opposite out here," he jokes. "The wide open spaces of the west ... a beautiful thing."

Already a guest of the Shoffly home in Agua Dulce, he plans to visit his brother in Burbank then start hiking again on May 17.  Sweetwater Farms Market made a great rest stop and place to talk about his other hikes..
