Runners Kick Off the Summer With First Day of Football Practice 2008

By Matthew Frank

Coach Doug South wasted no time in making sure the Rosamond Roadunners will be ready for the 2008 football season. On the first day of summer practice, June 9, 2008, the football players of Rosamond High turned out in full and had a successful day of practice.

During the first part of practice Coach South laid down new rules with the team. He is making sure that every team member is ready by the time this season opens. He also is integrating J.V. and Varsity practices.

Coach South said, "No more separation, its time to become one as a team." Then he went on and explained the new defense that the Runners are going to run. It is a 3-5-3 defense and he explained every detail to all the players.

After Coach South's first lecture the Runners made there way to the field for defensive drills. Defensive linemen learned about the stance they are supposed to be in, conducted off-the-ball drills and learned to line up.

Linebackers and secondary learned to rip and drive and about dropping into coverage.

Then the 2008 Roadrunners ran their defense and Coach South made sure each person got in. After the run through, Coach South was very pleased about how it looked.

The practice came to a close after a great turnout by students. These Runners hope to erase the memories of the 1-9 record last season.

Coach South made sure that all players would be in the weight room, getting stronger and making sure everybody has a chance. When the practice came to a close the Runners came together and yelled for the one thing they would hope to accomplish this season, PLAYOFFS.
