We have a female hedgehog named Phoebe. Phoebe protects herself with spines that she can stick up when startled or afraid. She has no spines on her belly and will curl up in a ball to protect her soft underside. She is nocturnal and spends most of the day sleeping. Here are some websites about hedgehogs-
We currently have 2 black and white rabbits that live in the courtyard area of the Environmental Study Center. When the weather is cold they come in and live in Mrs. Jones’ classroom. They are liter box trained and very friendly. Here are some cool websites about rabbits.
Our chinchilla was donated by Roland Blumberg. She will be living in the Library and will be checked out to classrooms for observation. Chinchillas really don’t like to be held and prefer quiet areas so our chinchilla will not be coming out of the cage to be snuggled ( but they are incredibly soft!) They are fun to watch though and kids can observe the chinchillas physical features and behavior.
Pebbles and Stumpy are two very sweet and gentle dumbo-eared rats. They are called dumbo-eared because their ears are at the side of their head instead of at the top. These boys are brothers and are very attached to each other.
