Mats started running a fever in Calgary a few days before we left. We talked to the HealthLink before we left, wondering if we should travel with him if he was sick. He didn’t seem really ill then, just that he couldn’t shake the fever entirely.
By the time we made it home, we were very concerned about him, and we made an appointment with the doctor first thing upon arriving. When we got to the doctor’s office, Mats was more or less himself, a little low, but alright, but then he suddenly took a turn for the worse. We noticed that his lips were blue.
The doctor immediately began treatment with him right there in the office, and told us that he was indeed seriously ill, and wanted to admit him to hospital if he didn’t respond to the treatments she would prescribe within 12 hours. If I (Kim) didn’t know how to inject him with huge doses of antibiotics, he would have been admitted to the hospital within the hour.
A chest x-ray confirmed the doctor’s fears that Mateo has pneumonia. He is also suffering from tonsillitis and a whopping double ear infection. On top of the bum-bruising injections that he is receiving daily, he is getting breathing treatments to try and open him up and eliminate the phlegm that has locked his lung.
The good news is that he has responded to the treatments, and is a wee bit perkier. Pneumonia has a long recovery time, though, and we are hoping that he would have a full and quick healing time.
Please pray for our little guy as he battles this sickness, and also pray for Sydney and Isaiah that they would be protected from contracting this disease as well. Pray for our energy and strength to get through the days and long nights as we treat our son.
