Breathing Treatments

Wow. We now have a whole new vocabulary. Words like “nebulization”, “corticosteroids”, “episode”, “bronchodilator”, all now slip into our everyday conversation. They are words we would rather not know nor use, but here we are, parents of a child with asthma.

Sydney was diagnosed this month, and we began a series of treatments for her whistling lung, and have seen some improvement. The worst part was going for her allergy test, which was 40 punctures on her back (because she is small, it covered her entire back), and then an injection to her arm to begin a series of vaccinations against the many things that cause her severe allergy attacks.

She is allergic to almost all grasses, dust mites, and, unfortunately, our kitty of 8 years. We are looking at changing the floors in our house to eliminate the carpet so as to minimize some of the allergens, and maybe looking for a new home for our trusty cat. We will also have to invest in new furniture, most likely. Unfortunately, Sydney’s classroom is carpeted, so please pray that it does not trigger her asthma.

It’s a lot of work to be the mom of an asthmatic, allergic little kid. Sometimes I get tired from just trying to keep her environment healthy, but God provides the energy for each day. Please pray that I would have enough energy to invest more in the kids than the cleaning!
