On November 10, 2007, Pete wrote to me: “...I had the platoon make a list of goods that they would like to have that they can’t get here in country. I’m doing my best to be a good leader here, and that includes taking care of the guys. I’m not going to mother them, however, I will do my best to make sure that everybody is doing well and has some things that will help make the time away from home a little easier.”

If you would like to donate monetary gifts in Pete’s memory...
We established a “Peter Burks Unsung Hero Fund,” which will be used to: send care packages downrange, support the needs of injured soldiers in Thunder and Palehorse; provide ongoing financial support for the families of any killed or injured member of Thunder or Palehorse; and establish a scholarship for kids who live life like Pete did. So far, money from this fund has allowed us send more than four tons of love to Iraq. It’s also helped get soldiers home to their families in emergencies. It’s brought smiles to faces of recovering soldiers at Walter Reed, and provided sheets/basic necessities to the guys returning home from downrange, among other things. We turn to the fund every single week for a new project - and we have YOU to thank for the ability to do so. http://www.unsungherofund.comshapeimage_2_link_0
