Building A History of the Club
Penryn RFC, ‘The Borough’, was formed in 1872, and is the oldest Rugby Club in Cornwall.
We are hoping to celebrate the long and diverse history of the club by gradually building a complete record, packed with articles and photographs which will be accessible to anyone through the website.
We plan for this project to include -
-
the formation of a complete history of the Club from it’s beginnings to the present day with the help of a local historian -
scanning in all the photographs owned by the Club and collecting images from former Penryn players and family to form a photography archive -
forming profiles of notable players and people associated with the Club -
linking our Club history to that of the Town and of Cornwall -
encouraging anyone to contribute by sending in articles and/or images
A complete history of Penryn Rugby Club is long overdue and we know it will not happen overnight. Our efforts are in their infancy and we would welcome any help, suggestions or contributions to hasten the development of this section.
In the meantime we have included the excellent short history of the Club written by Tom Salmon for the Centenary of the Cornwall RFU, and articles on The Saracens Head, Les Williams and Roger Hosen to give a flavour of what can be placed in this section.
Do you have any old photographs hidden away in the attic or at the back of the wardrobe gathering dust? Why not dig them out so that they can be scanned for the archive. Or would you be willing to spend a little time scanning and organising photos for us?
Do you have some memories of rugby in Penryn from the dim and distant past? If so why not jot something down and send it in? Perhaps you have information on a notable player or a special match? Why not write an article for us?
The Club and it’s History belong to the Town and the People of Penryn. Please contribute to this section if you can.
