Peggy Hager

Welcome to Norwegian!    My name is Peggy Hager and I teach first and second year Norwegian language at UW-Madison.  I have an undergraduate degree in German Education (UW-Eau Claire) and a M.A. in Scandinavian Studies from UW-Madison.  In addition, I have completed graduate work in Applied English Linguistics at UW-Madison and the University of Oslo.    I taught Norwegian at UW-Eau Claire for four years, before moving to Norway with my Norwegian husband for several years.  I taught English as a Second Language for many years before returning to Norwegian teaching and UW-Madison in 2000.

My interest and passion has always been language teaching. I enjoy researching and exploring new ways to make language learning effective and fun.   Most recently, I have been interested in exploring new technologies to use in language teaching.  In addition to working with beginning and intermediate Norwegian students, I enjoy teaching an evening class for adult learners.  These students show me that it is never too late to learn a new language and their energy and enthusiasm after a full day’s work always inspires me.

I live in Madison with my husband, Fredrikstad- born Tom Andersen, and my high school-aged daughter Mira.   My son Andreas graduated from college last spring and has joined the over-qualified baristas in New York City while he looks for a job in his field.   We share a cabin in Norway now with my husband’s family and  try to visit every other summer.
