NY Council ventured out to Jersey City to see what happens after our recycling is picked up from the curb.   Unfortunately, I was so fascinated by the sorting machines that I didn’t manage to take any pictures and I had to leave before we saw the giant shredder.  Next time!

NY Council trip to the Sims Recycling Plant
Safety first!
Hard hats for all!
Francesca even got special boots.
After learning how it got there,
we went to see how they recycled metals and plastic.
Outside the sorting facility
This facility recycles all of the residential curbside of NYC.
This facility handles plastic and metals.
Barges arrive at Sims 6 days a week 24 hours a day.
Barges can be filled as quickly as every 4 to 6 hours.
That’s a lot of stuff to be recycled!
This pile is pre-sorting facility.
and then put on a conveyer belt through the sorter.
