There are over 1000 County Drains in Ingham County, Michigan.  If you could stretch them into a straight line they would exceed 4000 miles.  Enough to stretch from Michigan to Florida and back again, and then some.  Given that there is so much water movement in these drains, it stands to reason that there would be great opportunity for many varied kinds ecosystem niches.

In these pages are some of these drain in photos and stories of there history.  Some of the drains have never been altered and some have been completely redesigned and rebuilt.  Because Patrick E. Lindemann, the County Drain Commissioner from the County of Ingham, has a policy of rebuilding and building drains in an environmentally friendly fashion, these Eco-opportunities are many.  This makes for some great Photo-ops as well.

Welcome to the wonderful world county drains.
