I think the Buzzards are ready to play ball! The first game of the season happens this morning and we can’t wait. Parents I want to tell you what a privilege it is that you would trust us with your boys in this wonderful game.

I was telling a story last night at dinner as to why I love football so much. Yes, I love the game. But more importantly I believe that football more than any other sport teaches us about life. Already in four weeks of practice I have had more serious conversations with my son about life and God than in the previous 12 weeks of summer. Something about the sport makes you realize how to deal with the trials and struggles of life require perseverance and faith. So thank you once again, and make sure you grab those opportunities with your boys, they are special.

Today both squads played their first live football and both did exceptionally well. The blue squad took the field first and was a defensive powerhouse allowing only two first downs. We saw some big hits coming from the line especially Harrison Spiller who racked up his first sack. On the offensive side of the ball there were a few normal glitches for this early in the season but all in all the team looked great. They executed well on their instructions and moved the ball for positive yardage.

The red squad, like the blue, had an equally strong showing. They allowed very little yardage and big hits could be seen by Murray Morrison and Will Patterson. Additionally, tackles David Nelson and Drew Crain proved themselves to be the bruise brothers we knew they could be. Offensively, the red squad was able to break a sweep around the left corner and break in for a touchdown providing a 7-0 victory against the Dragons.

It was a great day for starting the football season and the coaching staff could not be more proud of the boys! They have worked hard during some VERY hot weather and today was evidence of that. Way to go guys!
