Cast your bread upon the waters . . .
(Ecclesiastes 11:1)
The results are in: according to George Barna, 9/11 had no lasting influence upon the faith of Americans. Now if the tragedy of that day does not change faith in our country, is there anything that will have a lasting effect? Perhaps, just perhaps, something even more apocalyptic than 9/11 will do it, but let’s not count on it, and in the meantime Christ’s commission to make disciples continues.
How shall we make disciples?
Answer: by planting disciple-making churches. As the pastor of The Waters, I am fully committed to the disciple-making function of the Church. Many of us know Matthew 28:19-20:
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
This passage we know as the Great Commission, yet how shall we put this commission into action without the financial support of new ministries. Yes, I am asking for money, because without your financial support The Waters will simply be added to a long list of “could-have-beens” in the history of church planting. My prayer is that The Waters will succeed - not for my sake, but for the sake of the kingdom. The fields are too ready for harvest for us not to support the laborers.
Won’t you consider helping? $5, $25, $50, $100, $1000 . . . more? One time gift? Monthly support? We need to raise approximately $150,000 in the first 12 months of ministry to adequately finance The Waters. If you wonder about this amount, please write (or email) and I will send you my beginning “Dream Budget” for our first year.
