Ok, so now that we are back in the land where Internet does not cost 20 bir per minute and a simple email takes ten minutes(!), I can begin to fill you in on our Ethiopia Journey.
Over the next day or two we’ll gather together pictures and videos and run some of those here as well.
For today’s installment, let me just say that Lem Lem’s super hero name has been Changed to Queen of Sheba. Much more fitting. You’ll probably understand why as we go.
To that let me add, that she is well and we are well and bonding is occurring with the family.
Now, let’s back up and fill you on on the journey. We’ll start with a blog I wrote back on August 4th, but Sweetanlo couldn’t get up on the internet. It appeared briefly in the last day so some of you may have already seen it.
So, without further ado: Ethiopia log 1/ 12:22 p.m. New Mexico time. August 4th.
Well, here we are the first short leg of our journey over.
We are in Atlanta Georgia awaiting our next flight out which is in about 3 hours. There is wireless here (although not free), so I thought I'd drop in this quick update. We almost missed our morning flight here!
It was exciting (translated by Princess Ann, that means Stressful!) We frankly left too late and then we got held up in security. We had our liquids all carefully bagged and in 3 ounce containers. Unfortunately we forgot the difference between a quart and a gallon. so even though we didn't have too many liquids or too much liquid in anyone container, we were in violation because we had them in gallon bags.
So a very nice security maven had to go through each liquid. She didn't like my hair gel or the Amoxicillin (which wasn't even liquid but powder!).
Then they flagged another carry on because it had ...wait for it...books in it! Even the security maven who was handed the bag to look through said what I was thinking: "We're flagging bags for books nows?!"
Another very serious looking security man whispered something to her and she nodded and leafed through every page of the books.
At this point my wife was beginning to look nervous and the quick efficient security Maven turned out to be also compassionate and sensitive and she packed up our bags quickly into available quart sizes and shooed us on our way.
I ran ahead and got to the ticket person who saw me coming and waited. I told her my wife was "right behind me." which was perhaps a little bit of truth stretching for a pastor. Nonetheless, she waited and we got on the flight! Yayyyy!
So here we are. Nervous, excited and extremely tired and we haven't even started the jet lagging portion of our flight yet.
Well, that's all for now. I'll check in later.
