ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT
• Technology-the most exciting event of the week! The Mixscopes, that can magnify an object up to 200x. See photos in web-gallery. Students investigated the differences and similarities between cloth and bark. flowers, pedals and grasses, and even got to see the anther of a flower very up close. Also, the silk from the caterpillars. You should have heard all the “oooos” and “aaahhhhs”.
• Science-Physical Science: Finished geology and now onto life-cycles. The Painted Lady larvae made a fast evolution into the chrysalis, and we anxiously await the new birth.
•Reading Workshop-non-fiction reading and determining importance of text.
•Writing Workshop-“VOICE”, one of the 6-traits writing areas. Students are asking themselves: Does my writing sound like me? Does my writing show feelings? Does my writing talk to a reader? Who is my audience? Is my writing formal or informal? Added point of view.
Cherries and Cherry Pits by Vera Williams- perfect background for math estimation, dividing into equal groups, fractions, and response to literature. I always remember this thematic unit when I see cherries for sale, and of course have to bring some for a treat.
