Many of us know what it’s like to wear “hand-me-downs” from older brothers and sisters. But the average American today has many more options than his or her pioneer ancestors had. Back in those days, most of the clothing, and even some of the cloth, was handmade at home. The average boy or girl might have had two changes of clothes in addition to their Sunday outfit. Well fitting shoes were even harder to come by. How did the pioneers of northwest Ohio keep their clothing clean? How does this compare with today?
