Newspapers in the United States became significant in the 19th century due to higher literacy rates, improvements in paper manufacturing, and printing technology.  By the mid-1800s, nearly 75% of Americans could read.  The invention of rolled paper led to the mass production of newspapers, and the “penny press” emerged making newspapers affordable.  While political content has remained important, it is but one feature that Americans read in their daily newspapers.  What is your favorite section of the newspaper and why?
