One dining experience does not a restaurant review make, so read this entry with that in mind. I do not plan on writing restaurant reviews on this blog, but if I eat at a restaurant in Frederick, I will try to share my views and compare with other places I’ve eaten similar cuisine.
FuzAsian Noodles and Grill (1031 W Patrick St) has pretty decent food. It’s a small restaurant with plenty of seating. Seems to be on the lunch rotation for some folks from the NCI/SAIC campus here. The menu has the standard fare of thai and vietnamese dishes. I had the pad thai, which was tres delicious. My lunch buddy also had a noodle dish that looked very good (and he said it was great), so I guess this means FuzAsian might be on my list. Still nothing compares to Spice restaurant in Cambridge, MA. Thai food isn’t just Thai food. Spice is special. If you’re ever in that area, make sure you check it out - and order the Basil Crispy Chicken (or as the menu read right until the last time i was there “Basil Crisy Chicken.” Oh, and don’t go on a Saturday night if you mind long waits.
Famous Dave’s bbq joint (1003 W Patrick St.) was also a good place I had lunch recently. Again, standard fare of stick-to-your-ribs (N.P.I) menu items. The pork sandwich was great. Two of my friends ordered one of those has-everything platters for three (they said they qualified as three people) and it really did come with everything. Looked good, too. As with all bbq meat sandwiches, watch out for those landmines of fat globules. Nothing against fat landmines, I just prefer a little consistency in the texture of my food. That means to walnuts in my banana bread and not crunchy shit in my soup, either!
I’ve eaten at quite a few bbq restaurants over the years, but I cannot compare with any of them because I’ve never been a regular at any. Anyway, I’d go to Famous Dave’s again - maybe in another 6 months or so though.
