Sunamganj

Now that I’ve retired again, it’s up to Aleta to shoulder the family responsibility for conducting fraud investigations.  Last week, she went on an overnight trip to Sunamganj, yet another village located smack dab in the middle of nowhere, this time very north north east of Dhaka, in Sylhet Division.  It is one of the wettest places in Bangladesh, known for its birdwatching. To get where she was going, Aleta eventually had to ride on the back of a motorbike for an hour and a half to get to the river to take a launch to her final destination.   She stayed in the Hotel MIzan, widely recognized as the finest hotel in the Haor Basin and frequently remarked upon for its basic amenities.  Unfortunately, the hotel visit came too late to be included in the current edition of Where to Stay.  At under nine dollars per night, though, it would be another Sylhet Best Bet™.  lk
