When we last checked in, Dhaka was 139th out of 140 cities on the Forbes Magazine rankings of the world’s most liveable cities, barely beating out Harare. Well, a lot has happened here in the last year - Bangladesh has had free and fair elections, with a peaceful transition from a caretaker government to democratic rule; an armed uniformed rebellion was put down; and Bangladesh beat both Macao and Cambodia in soccer, for their first international victories in three years. All of these positive factors contributed immensely to Bangladesh’s improvement to tied with Algiers for 138th in this year’s survey. Harare is once again last and Vancouver retained its most liveable rating. Our next post, Moscow, is far up the scale at number 69. For those keeping score, the highest ranked U.S. city is Pittsburgh, at 29. lk
