Pushkar, home to an annual 50,000 strong camel fair, was our last stop in Rajastan. Located on the edge of the desert, surrounding a small lake, Pushkar is a major Hindu pilgrimage site and coexists with a substantial tourist population, most of which, inexplicably enough, consists of young Israelis. Pushkar itself is a vegetarian town, with meat and eggs prohibited, as well as alcohol and public displays of affection. Smoking of all kinds is okay. There are a lot of interesting looking temples and plenty of opportunities for shopping. Aleta and I got up early one morning and made the one hour uphill trek to the Savitri Temple to check out the view from the top. It was a nice way to end our trip. lk
