Spinning, Weaving & Knitting together in friendship since 1971

Just a quick note to let all the members that were not able to be with us at Munnell Run Farm on Saturday that you missed a good time.

Bonnie Massing brought a big pile of  balls of mohair roving from last month natural dye workshop to show us .  She also was knitting on a  beautiful red boucle prayer shawl. Ellen O. stopped by to knit with us in the afternoon. Ellen had a huge skein of pattern yarn and was knitting squares.

Judy and Mary came from Utica.  Judy had a woven tote bag she made from shadow woven cloth she wove on an 8 harness loom.  It was beautifully made and the woven design was very complex.  Subtle navy and white pattern reminding us of something you might find woven in Japan. Judy brought some wonderful new handspun shades of red yarn to show us and a great red chevron knit vest.  The pattern was inspiring and everyone wanted to knit one.  Mary had several skeins of handspun she dyed with natural dyes last month at Lynns.  She will be knitting them into some hats for Christmas gifts. I wish I would have remembered to take pictures I could have posted them but I just did not think about it.

Bonnie Swogger  brought three beautiful handwoven rugs made from her own alpaca fibers.  Bonnie and Judy worked on spinning.  Judy will have Barb spinning core and ply yarns before long.  Bonnie is one of our new members and we hope she continues to come and play with us at the farm.  I say play with us because our meetings are like play.   Some groups have formal meetings reminding us of being in a classroom or lecture with not much interaction between members and not much work being done.  Our meetings are interactive with members knitting and spinning at the meetings.  We also enjoy sharing what we know and helping each other improve our spinning , knitting and weaving skills.  We love new members that are interested in what we are creations and willing to share what what they are doing with us.

Margaret was knitting cables soon to be a felted bag.  It will be a beauty.  I hope she brings it after  it is felted so we can see the results.

Barb W. and Ember came from Pgh.  Barb had several of her knit mobius scarf with hood designs.  They are a really cool to see on . Barb was also working on a Faroese Shawl that had a lace pattern panel down the back.

I was knitting on socks with two different yarn.  One was a solid color and one multi color patterned yarn.  I would be knitting along and forget to switch yarns because I was talking and watching what everyone else was doing that.  I had to take out a row of my socks three times before I finally gave up on multi-tasking.

Our next meeting will be Thursday November 12.  The meeting will focus on spinning and knitting.  Bring your stuff and join us.  I know some of you have to work and can only come on Saturdays.  We will miss you and hope you can come to our next Saturday meeting  January 9.
