The construction of the new mensa for St. Ignatius of Antioch by Oscar Jovel Jr.
Here are a few photos depicting some of the construction process over a period of about four and a half months. I thank my wife for her support and patience while I took over part of our house. And to Fr. Robert Rien for his vision and confidence in me. It has been my privilege.
It begins with a frame...
that holds a grid...
that gets a skin....
on both sides....
and you have a torsion box!
Crotch mahagony boards awaiting their fate
“half a pound sliced thin please”
Mmmm...Mmmm...good
so what do we do with the slices of veneer now?
Let’s cut them to size!
maybe like this?
okay, a little dab’ll do ya’
hold the press!
...and start adding more
A glued up sheet of 28 pieces of veneer, easy huh?
