Orthotic Devices
What are Custom-Made Orthotics?

Orthosis (singular), Orthoses (plural)
Custom-made orthoses are therapeutic devices individually designed from a 3-dimensional cast of the feet. They may be worn inside off-the-shelf or custom-made footwear. Orthoses are used to support, protect and/or realign the feet and lower extremities. They may be made from rigid or soft materials and different styles depending on:
    - the foot condition being treated
    - patient requirements and overall health
    - type of footwear

Casting Method
Orthoses should be fabricated from a 3-dimensional cast of the patient’s feet. The purpose of the cast is to capture the shape of the foot including any anatomical anomalies in order to correct the foot position or alter forces acting on the foot.

Orthotic Design
The Pedorthist designs the orthoses for each individual based on their biomechanical assessment, gait analysis and footwear evaluation.

Orthosis Fabrication
The orthoses are fabricated according to the Pedorthist’s design specifications by a professional foot orthotic laboratory that is accredited by the Prescription Foot Orthotic Laboratories Association to ensure the highest quality standards.
