The Ministry Area

The Kipsongo slum (the place of the dogs), Kitale, houses one of the most outcast people groups in Kenya; a group of men, women and children numbering 2500.  The community covers 6 ½ acres.  There is no electricity or water within the slum.

Mission Statement

We exist solely to share the love and the Gospel of Jesus Christ by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of people as Jesus outlined in Matthew 25:34-40.

The Work

The work includes every aspect of ministry and projects ranging from drilling water wells to starting small individual businesses.  In addition, larger businesses will be started that will employ groups of people.  This ministry work is a very big undertaking and will require many people from the body of Christ to execute it.

The primary focus is Kenya, however Seeds Ministry is also involved in the Father’s work in the United States.

Proverbs 10:15b “the destruction of the poor is their poverty”

A key to breaking poverty is owning something.  Good stewardship can eradicate poverty.  When you take ownership of something it changes your interest in it.  We want to help the people of Kipsongo take ownership of their lives and the vision of how to change their environment.

The Lord has put it in our hearts to empower these people to pull themselves out of abject poverty and to share the Gospel and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ in Word and deed.

The Calling

This ministry grew out of a calling received in 1998 to “Go” to Africa.  As time passed the vision was planted to be involved in water wells and feeding the hungry.  Opp and Karen sought to join up with several different established ministries, but the doors did not open.

In January 2005, God opened the door to minister with Bishop Ben Bahati, Global Field Evangelism, Kenya.  In June 2005 Opp and Karen went to Kenya and toured the ministry work of Bishop Ben, meeting all thirty of his pastors, visiting the girls and the boys orphanage, the feeding program and visiting four cities.

A relationship was established with Pastor Richard Makani (Bishop Ben’s Brother), and after visiting the Kipsongo Slum in Kitale, the Lord’s assignment was clear:  Minister to the people of the Kipsongo Slum.  All the people, all areas of ministry and helps- the entire people group!  The need was the call.
