The start side of world’s best bars...
![There was a time, when worldsbestbars.com was just a small website for barflies!
It was not really updated regularly, but on the other side it had its own charm and people liked to recommend their watering holes!
One of the short comes since then was, that bars and night clubs and pubs were all in the same category [which is kind of odd - as the site is called worlds best BARS!].
Last year finally it was redesigned and first I thought that this is a good thing! And they added a top 100 rating!
I don’t think, that it makes sense to democratic and subjective discuss about a rating of the best bars - most great bars are just kinda geeky bars, which are praised by bar flies but ignored by the average customer...
Anyhow; there was a lot discussion about the ranking on the bartender forum drinkboy.com. But the ranking was still... lets say understandable!
Things get from bad to worse, when I recognized on one day, that there was a lot of change in the top100! Now Riva Bar in Berlin / Germany was rated 1!
You have to know: Riva bar is certainly not a bad bar - very trendy and stylish - but also not really representable as nonplus-ultra of bars!
After I have seen, that this kind of change happened I started to ignore the website - until one doubtful guy from one of our supplier told me, that he is working for a spirit company and that they could pitch a bit the popularity of Vu’s bar on worldsbestbars.com .
Then he just mentioned, that for the moment Barasti Bar in Dubai is number one!
I could not believe it! I directly opened the website - but it was a fact! You have to imagine, Barasti is kind of very casual drink joint located at the beach, and a bit greasy. And they have really inferior mixed drinks! They are serving shooters in plastic cups [while other glasses are real glasses], Cherry Caipirnha made with cocktail cherries and in their Mojitos you need to fish out the lime wedges and squeeze yourself, if you want to have the “real” thing with a bit sour tang!
The guy, just offered me a cooperation to upgrade Vu’s bar to the top of WBB.
I thanked him, but suddenly was very busy and as I had a very ambitious time plan...
And since then I really prefer to get deleted, as to be named under this ridiculous ranking!
