I have had some trouble with my fantastic mighty mouse
these last days.
Indeed, this mouse is extremely good but not perfect...
due to some dust that comes around the ball...the scroll
function can sometimes completely stop working.
This is exactly what happened to me. So I decided to try
to repair it.
There are currently 2 different existing solutions to clean it:
- The Apple Official Solution (which does not work)
- A solution which consists in de-mounting the mighty
mouse
The Apple solution didn’t work at all and, it is not that I was afraid of loosing my warranty (with the de-mounting solution), but I didn’t had any Super Glue to remount my mouse so I decided to try something else...that worked.
STEP 1
Find needles, the one you will need to use is the smallest one
of a standard needles’ assortment.
STEP 2
Introduce slowly the needle between the ball and the white plastic
of the mighty mouse. Do it really slow to be sure to not brake
anything. If you can’t introduce it on one side of the ball try from
another side.
STEP 3
With the needle in this position try to scratch inside the mouse on
the side where the scroll is not working (ex. right scroll, right side
of the ball).
Do it as well slowly to be sure to don’t brake anything.
STEP 4
Take the needle of and check if it is working. If it is not repeat
step 2 and step 3 until it works.
STEP 5
It is possible that the scroll works but that it makes a louder noise
than usual when scrolling (due to some dust within the mouse).
To avoid it, press strong on the ball with your finger and scroll
until the noise disappear.
Good Luck and have fun with your “new” mighty mouse ;-).
