Well, here we go again… We depart San Carlos around 9 a.m., for a five-day tour of Eastern Sonora into the neighboring state of Chihuahua –in our private coach. It is a small group tour, escorted by knowledgeable English-speaking guides.
We start northbound towards Hermosillo, where we leave Highway 15 to a paved federal highway that travels through a string of small communities. We’ll stop in Mazatan for lunch and sight seeing, and then continue to San Pedro de la Cueva, where we will take a boat tour over a submerged town on Sonora’s largest lake. Then on to Bacanora and a look at how a local liquor is produced. We will continue on to Sahuaripa, Arivechi and Bámori where we check into our hacienda for the second night. Next morning we travel to Yécora, for lunch. We will travel along a scenic road lined with pines, and enjoy a lower temperature and great views. After visiting “El Campanero” an ecology reserve, we head east toward Chihuahua state to visit Basaseachi Waterfall, one of the biggest in Mexico and Latin America. We will be staying in wooden log cabins near the waterfall on our third night.
After exploring the beautiful area around the falls we head back into Sonora to Oviachic Lake, a few kilometers north of Ciudad Obregón. We have lunch at the Marina del Rey Lodge. This lake is known internationally for its great fresh water bass fishing. Then an afternoon and overnight in nice hotel in Ciudad Obregón.
The following morning after breakfast and some discovery of the area, we head back home to San Carlos.
