Tidepool Discovery Dec. 28th beginning at 2:00 P.M.

Who: Young and old alike, great for all ages and family groups

What: We will visit  one of the best tidepool locations in San Carlos. We’ll be guided by a marine biologist and naturalist as we explore the inter-tidal zones during low tide. We will discover a variety of marine life as we carefully turn-over rocks and search shallow tide pools. Our guides will discuss what the creatures and plants are called, and how they survive in a particular zone of the tide pool’s structure.

We will use digital cameras to photograph what we find. We will also demonstrate special underwater live video cameras to see what is living in deeper water. We will use computer-driven microscopes to see greater details of our marine specimens before we return them carefully to their tide pool homes. What will we see and name?  Sea stars, sea urchins, shore crabs, sea anemone, shells, seaweeds and fish. What else? It’s different every time.

When: Sessions last about 2 hours, when the tide is near it’s lowest on a given day. We schedule two sessions per month and every month is different. They are usually near the times of a full and new moon. Watch for e-mail updates and check back on this web page.

Where: Sessions are on the sea shore near the Marina San Carlos. Specific directions will be give when you make reservations by e-mail. There is plenty of parking very close, or it is walking distance from the Marina San Carlos.

Why: It’s a fun and interesting look at the sea shore. It is not a technical lecture, and is easy to understand and enjoy by young and old alike. You will learn so much and be able to share your new knowledge with friends and family.

How: Make a reservation by e-mail to oceancamp@me.com and put “Tide pool Discovery” in the subject line. Give us your name and how many guests are in your group. We’ll confirm by e-mail and give you directions and updates about the activity. The cost is 90 pesos for Ocean Camp members and 120 pesos for non-members. We’ll collect when you arrive for the program.
