In November, 2003 we traveled with Anne Warner of the Oakland Zoo to Refugio Ecologico Caiman in the Pantanal, Brazil’s enormous plain which becomes a lake in the spring. This is the home of the Hyacinth Macaw, of which there are very few left. We saw and photographed a wonderful array of birds, rode horseback through the flooded plain, and ended our trip with a visit to Iguassu Falls.
