Tips:

Basically, for most trips you need to bring:
•yourselves,
•some old clothes you don't mind getting (very) dirty,
•sand shoes or old hiking boots,
•some lunch and snack food (un-squashable is best), and
•a change of clothes for afterwards.
If you have overalls (not greasy!) and a spare torch, by all means bring them. NUCC provides helmets, lamps etc. and any other special gear needed for the particular cave.
On overnight trips, you will need your own camping gear (tent, sleeping bag etc., though NUCC has a large tent you can sleep in if you want to). You will also need your own breakfasts, lunches and dinners
Transport:
Club members have to get themselves to and from caving trips, so sharing of cars and costs is the go! This is generally organised at the pre-trip meeting, so you definitely need to be at the meeting if you want to arrange a lift. Non-drivers generally contribute $10-$20 towards transport costs, the money being split amongst car owners/drivers who carry people or gear for the trip.
When you register for a trip, please put down if you have a car, can give passengers a lift, or if you need a lift yourself.
Remember, you need to register for caving trips, and you need to go to the pre-trip meeting the Tuesday before the trip - 6:00 p.m. at the NUCC gear store, next to the old climbing wall in the Sports Union Gym.
Costs:
NUCC tries to keep costs to a minimum - most of us are poor students anyway!
Generally, $5 per day applies, with a surcharge of $5 for trips involving vertical gear (to contribute to rope wear and tear). Non-members pay double or join up.
Alternatively, members who expect to be caving with us on a regular basis can opt to obtain a gold membership card at a cost of $70 which covers trip fees (not camping or fuel) for all normal NUCC trips (excluding large expeditions).
Usually the only additional costs involved in trips are transport related. This ranges from $5-$20 for non-drivers, depending on the length of the trip.
