Call for Nominations for Spring 2009 All-University Election

                                                                ANNOUNCEMENT

THE COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES announces the following openings for Faculty positions on all-university Standing Committees and Presidential Committees, and on the Faculty/Academic Councils.  The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 12:00 noon on Friday April 10, 2009.  The number of vacancies on a committee, board or council may vary subsequent to this announcement due to resignations and/or other unforeseen circumstances.  Full-time Teaching-Research and/or Clinician-Educator Faculty interested in nominating themselves and/or others for these positions should submit the form below (or a copy of the form) to either (or both) of the following people:

Positions on the following committees are open to all members of the full-time faculty.

Committee on Committees:

1 three-year term from the College of Arts and Sciences

Financial Advisory Committee:

University Committee on Student Life Policy:

1 three-year term

Campus Planning Committee:

1 three-year term

University Committee on Student Discipline:

1 three-year term

2 three-year terms for alternate members

University Committee on Lectures, Films, and Concerts:

2 three-year terms

University Committee on Public Honors and Events:

1 three-year term

1 three-year term

University Committee on Benefits:

University Committee on the Status of Women:

Positions on the following committee are allocated by school.

Committee on Faculty Handbook and University Statutes:

1 three-year term from the College of Arts and Sciences

1 three-year term from the School of Dentistry

1 three- year term from the School of Medicine

Positions on the following committee are allocated by school and require tenure.

Board of Undergraduate Studies:

2 three-year terms from the College of Arts and Sciences (one from the Professional, one at-large)

2 three-year terms from the College of Business Administration

1 three-year term from the School of Nursing

1 three-year term from the School of Pharmacy and Health Profession (from Physical Therapy)

Positions on the following three committees are open to full-time members of the faculty who have tenure, and who are not chairs, division heads, directors of centers or directors of institutes.

Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility:

1 three-year term

Faculty Grievance Committee:

1 three-year term

Committee on Faculty Dismissals:

1 three-year term for committee members

4 three-year terms for alternate members

Selection of members for the Committee on Faculty Dismissals is based upon the number of votes received and the provisions of Section III.H.4.b.i. of the Faculty Handbook.



Positions on the following committee are open to full-time faculty who have tenure and who hold the rank of Associate Professor or above.

University Committee on Rank and Tenure:

1 three-year term from the College of Arts and Sciences

1 three-year term from the School of Law

1 three-year term from the School of Nursing


Faculty Council:

Members of the Faculty Council are automatically members of the Academic Council.  A majority of the members from each college and school must have tenure (except in those schools with only two representatives, where at least one must have tenure).  The indication of tenured or non-tenured below is an estimate of needs at the time of publication of this notice.  As the Committee on Committees is currently not able to ascertain the tenure status of all potential candidates, the tenure determination for individuals will have to be addressed at a later date.  The Councils meet on Thursdays between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.; to be nominated and elected, you must have this time slot available or made available for you.

4 three-year terms (at least two must be tenured)

4 one-year terms (at least two must be tenured)

College of Business Administration

1 three-year term (tenured or non-tenured)

School of Law

1 three-year term (tenured)

School of Dentistry

1 one-year term (tenured or non-tenured)

2 three-year terms (at least one must be tenured)

School of Medicine

5 one-year terms (at least two must be tenured)

6 three-year terms (at least three must be tenured)

            School of Nursing

                        2 three-year terms (at least one must be tenured)

School of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions

1 one-year term (tenured or non-tenured)

2 three-year terms (at least one must be tenured)
