As a general rule, orders that are over $100 offer FREE shipping. As a general rule, ELT specialists offer 10% discounts on orders made by schools (or teachers with more than 20 students).  All orders even under ¥10000 [or $100 CDN] should have 10% discount but there may be an annual fee with these ELT specialist with the exception of a few good ones like Nellie’s.

At Nellie’s, orders over ¥50000 yen [$500] also may yield a 12% discount and orders over ¥100000 [or $1000] should yield a 15% discount if you ask for it.  Schools who place over ¥500000 [$5000 ] per year in book purchases should automatically receive a 15% discount.  No joining fee and no annual membership fee at Nellie’s.

NCC requires a $10 joining fee and $10 per year membership fee but books can always be shipped expediently even in the month of April as where Nellie’s sometimes require an extra week for shipping in this very busy season (unless you visit them personally).  Free shipping at NCC starts at $300 but they can ship any number of books rather inexpensively via the Post’s Small Packet for Printed Materials called “SASHI KOZUTSUMI”.  One book can ship for as little as ¥190 in a 3 to 4 day delivery schedule. Shipping at NCC never exceeds ¥630 even if shipping is done by way of a more expedient means.  NCC is used by Domei Bible Church English Schools but many other English schools prefer Nellie’s service.

Kyobunkan also offer 10% discounts but no one here seems to speak English and there are many other stores that can offer this same 10% discount.

A Word on Photocopying as Stated “Over the Phone” by Publishers:

According to publishers, photocopying is permitted only when it is not destructive to the stream (the flow) of revenue.  From what can be understood after talking to several of them directly is that when copying for trial students who may be joining the class or if the entire class wants to try out a book by a particular publisher then just one unit or one section for example may be used for this purpose.  Supposedly, the publishers purely looks at intent of photocopying as they may say over the phone that this issue is purely about mutual respect.

As long as you quickly move the student into purchasing the books of that publisher then the motive is not an intention to intervene or detour the flow of revenue away from the authors, publishers, and distributors but rather an intention to institute a positive stream of revenue.  If in any case this is stated in an incorrect or misleading way, please contact the publishers directly and talk to the department responsible for customer relations.

Other book stores in the Kansai area (Osaka, Nara, Kobe, Kyoto, etc.) may or may not be not be scpecialized in serving EC Schools but this may be very helpful if you live in the area

As early as 1731, The world's first futures market settled here which was more than a century before the first forward trade was recorded in Chicago."
