Kathryn Hermansen came to Norway in 1963 and has worked since 1971 in teacher education, first at Sagene Lærerskole and later at Oslo University College. During this time she has taught literature, culture and language to students training to teach English in Norwegian primary and lower secondary schools. In the last ten years she has also been involved in in-service courses and developed a special interest in text studies and reading.

Ninian Millar came to Norway in 1968, working first in the Oslo Extra Mural Board in adult education, training teachers of English and creating course materials for specialist courses. He then moved on to become an English teaching adviser in the Norwegian Ministry of Education before moving into teacher education in 1974. From then and until 1990 he worked at Elverum University College, in the initial training of English teachers for the Norwegian school system and also running in service courses.

In 1993 He moved to Oslo and worked at Oslo University College in the faculty of education teaching within initial teacher education and running in-service courses. He is also author of some thirteen books for learners and teachers of English.

Since 1993 we have worked together developing new materials for integrating the teaching of literature and culture, have initiated and taught international courses for European students and for the past eight years have concentrated on developing course materials and courses using ICT as an integrated part of the course structure. A lot of this work has been supported through Nasjonalt nettverk

for engelsk og 2. fremmedspråk, with generous grants of money from the Norwegian Ministry of Education, and has resulted in two web based courses for teachers of English and a  package of materials for the training of English teachers based on video clips of good teaching practice. The latter was part of a larger project which involved colleagues from eight other University colleges in Norway.

During the past few years we have run numerous courses for teachers on the theme of ICT supported English teaching and have also presented aspects of our work at various international conferences and courses in Norway, Belgium, Denmark.

We have now both retired from regular teaching but are members of the Seniorbasen

at Oslo University College. We continue to work with developing materials and running courses for teachers and would be happy to discuss possible courses. Our email addresses are:
