Although she started her career teaching teens, more recently, Ms. Nikki wrote the art curriculum for The International School of Louisiana for students aged five through eleven. The main objective of the curriculum was to teach students elements of art integrated with art history while bolstering confidence in the discovery of personalized, creative self-expression. Students were encouraged to discover their own creative process by developing an awareness of their pace of work and to take it into consideration throughout the planning process for a creative project. Students were also encouraged to experiment with different media and techniques in order to decide which was the best vehicle for personal expression. At the end of each semester, students chose one piece from their developed work to exhibit in a student art show.

It is a common occurrence in Ms. Nikki’s classes for six year old students to speak with ease and comfort about the styles of artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Joan Miro´, or Alexander Calder.

In keeping with this spirit of self-exploration and creation, Ms. Nikki has decided to create a quality after school art program, Nola Luna Arts, in order to facilitate the development of creative expression in people. As Nola Luna Arts expands, she expects to add age specific courses, courses for parents and students to take together and weekend workshops for adults and high-school students.
