We receive many requests to view, review or endorse equipment, products or services.  We try to be as selective as possible with our endorsements and remain very particular on what we attach our name to.  The listed products are some that passed our test.  These products have been used by one or more of out clients or are currently being used by industry professionals or law enforcement.

Although we have recommended the following products or services, we do not guarantee their success or any of their own product or service claims.  Use them as they direct you to.

FLASHLIGHT - This simple tool is essential for nearly every form of nightclub or bar security guard work.  At the door, to give directions, to locate items dropped on the floor or to flag down another employee; this is a must.   However, it is important to also remember, when you select your flashlight; “You get what you pay for”.  This light is small, lightweight, extremely durable and powerful.

Our choice for our clients is the rechargeable Streamlight Stinger.

RADIOS & HEADSET - Another must for any member of a hospitality security and management team are radios.  Nearly every proactive and smart operator has their staff equipped with communications equipment.  Having communications equipment can help in many areas, most important of which is to prevent fights or incidents  of violence or continued violence.  However, finding the equipment that will screen out ambient noise, stand up with heavy use, be easy to operate and keep costs down, is very hard to find.  Well, we found the right equipment.

Our choice for our clients is the rechargeable Black Diamond with the Centurian High Noise Headset from Custom Earpiece.

UV PENLIGHT - Another recommended tool for any employee given the duty of screening patrons for fake or borrowed identification.  This Ultra Violet Pen Light by Streamlight is a great and inexpensive tool.  This is our choice to help find bad forms of identification.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING - Safety and security in every alcohol service venue is a MUST.  Civil courts and juries have found operators at fault who do not care for patrons who visit their venues.  During times of crisis patrons will panic, but having a path with lights and clear directions for patrons to escape can save lives.  This product, Light Tape can do just that.  Nearly as thin as tape, this product uses AC or a simple battery pack for power.  Supplied in several different colors, placing lengths of this tape around doorways and other paths of escape will send a strong message.  This is a quality product that we recommend to all our clients.

CAMERAS or CCTV - This is possibly the most essential piece of equipment for anyone that owns a liquor license.  Simply put, spending $5,000.00 dollars on a large storage DVR with 8 high quality camera can save the owner over $100,000 dollars during the first lawsuit.  Cameras can show law enforcement the employees are doing their jobs, can show liquor control boards that employees are checking identification, can show insurance company claims adjusters that an accident didn’t really occur or that it was due to negligence from the patron.  Cameras can to so much for so many.  Every client of mine is pushed to get as many as they can and when they think they have enough cameras and coverage in their bar or nightclub...I tell them to get at least 5 more.

I tell my clients that after they have installed at least 10 high quality cameras with a DVR that can hold images for at least 15 days, they need to plan and budget for 3-4 new cameras every year.  When they run out of DVR space, get another one.  Simple.

We recently spoke with a national company based out of California called DTT Surveillance.  They have worked with dozen’s of alcohol service venues across the country and have a proven product and track record.  If you contact them, be sure to tell the sales representative that you heard about them from Nightclub Security Consultants.  See their websites at www.dttusa.com.

HANDCUFFS - These restraints are a great tool, if used correctly and safely.  I support their use, if done with care and consideration.  When used correctly, handcuffs can help lessen violence and reduce liability.  However, if used incorrectly, they can can create serious civil liability.

If you decide to carry them or allow security employees to carry them, you must obtain or provide proper training regarding their application, the correct time to use them, what to do after they are on a combative subject and much more.  Without the proper training, this simple tool can make for a deadly situation.  Be careful with this devise and seek the proper training.  We do not recommend the use of “Zip Ties” as a handcuff replacement or restraint.
