In researching Crossed, I decided to visit, in order, the four major sites where the crusaders set up camp: Venice, Zara (now Zadar), Corfu and Constantinople (now Istanbul). Out of hundreds of photos, I’ve tried to cull a few most directly related to the story, or the experience of my writing it.
