Elliot Scheiner - Session 1
 
In Part 1 of their interview, Ken Volpe and Elliot Scheiner speak about how he got started as an engineer and how Phil Ramone became his mentor. They also talk about his early work with Van Morrison and touch on capturing great guitar tones in the studio.
 
About: Elliot Scheiner is a record producer and record engineer. Scheiner has received sixteen Grammy Award nominations, five of which he won, and he has been awarded two Emmy nominations and three TEC Award nominations.
 
He started as Phil Ramone's assistant at A&R Recording in New York City and quickly advanced to an engineer. By 1973 he had begun to freelance as an engineer and producer becoming the first person ever to work as a freelance engineer for other artists.
 
Elliot has produced and engineered a range of talented artists ranging from Beck, Faith Hill, Steely Dan, Toto, Ricky Martin, Sting, Bruce Hornsby, Eagles, B.B. King, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith and many others. He mixed the IMAX film All Access in surround sound. The film footage includes Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, Macy Gray, Kid Rock, Moby, George Clinton, Mary J. Blige, Al Green, and Rob Thomas.
 
Elliot and Bob Ludwig did the 5.1 surround sound mix of Roy Orbison's Black & White Night concert DVD.
 
Recently, Elliot was involved with the design of the ELS Surround sound system for Acura's 3.2TL luxury sedan. This audio system bearing his signature has received rave reviews from the automotive press.
