In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Sis. Vickie died about two weeks ago, and the following was prepared a week later...
what does it mean to be comfortable in your skin
these are the words that came to me when i thought of what i could say about our dearly departed sister Vickie
what a contribution she was to us all
a person very aware of the job she was doing, and when she did a job very well.
she knew what she could do in the world and what she couldn't
she did everything she could do in the world within her means to do it
she lived the dreams she had...which is a lesson for all of us.
we never know when God is going to take us
we never know when our skin is no longer needed for us to be at one with God.
we never know when God is going to show us how to get out of our comfort zone--as only God can
and we never know where God will take us when we follow the path that leads us away from what we may have known, out of the comfort of our skin
out of the comfort of other peoples expectation, other peoples hopes and dreams, other peoples lives.
there is a point where life is between us and God. Us and God alone. I maintain as a member of the Quran Society of New York and the Mosque of the One God that Vicki reached such a point in her life. that oneness. that head to head, heart to heart, time to time its time. oneness.
the Quran is the sacred reading from God to all humanity,
We who submit to God, we who surrender our wills to the will of God, we who trust God to lead us to mercy and judgement in the here-and-now and the Hereafter,
believe God decided it was time for our sister Vickie to go home. The true home isn't with people, it's with God; it's complete surrender and submission of the will and the breath.
Asthma on the other hand, is a constriction of breath. Those of use who have asthma face death in every moment with a fear that that next breath may be our last. Vickie didn't let that fear stop her from living her life to the fullest! She gave us beautiful children and courageous thoughts and a living example of how we could take charge of our lives--just do it. did any of us stop to think what life would be if Vickie didn't just do it? What example that would leave? Where we would all be now? Stepping out of one's skin is no simple matter! We gave you the hearing the eyesight and the brain, you are responsible for using them, the Quran says.
Vickie is brave, she is telling us something, she is gone, and her life and her passing is her testimony. May she rest in peace at God, finding comfort at last in her spiritual skin, and may Praises be to God in mercy and compassion for her striving soul.
