‘Water & Guns: Encounters with Undocumented Border Patrol’ is a glimpse into civilian interaction with migrants crossing into the United States from Mexico. Millions of people cross outside of official points of entry between the United States of America and Mexico. ‘No More Deaths’ is a self-described humanitarian group. They place water bottles at frequently crossed areas of migration due to increasing numbers of deaths in the desert due to dehydration. Operating in that same area are the ‘Minuteman Civil Defense Corps’, a self-described national citizens neighborhood watch, they report migrants to the government Border Patrol which then arrest and deport migrants.
Migrants are meet with water, others with guns, but worst of all is being lost and met by none. In the crossing region of Arizona alone, 206 deaths were reported for fiscal year 2006. On average, 2 people die a day crossing along the 1952 mile (3140km) long border. This short documentary was filmed during a trip in the border regions, recording in simple ways the thoughts and operations of these unique civilian groups.
