We are a cohousing community in Aptos, CA, 6 miles from Santa Cruz.
A group of us had been trying for years to develop another cohousing project in Santa Cruz County. However, the cost of land and development was becoming less and less affordable. One year ago, we found a townhouse complex that had a physical arrangement amenable to cohousing. It also had an extra single story, 3 BR home on the property to use as our Common House. It was affordable!

	        •	11 townhomes and a common house on .89 acre
	        •	1600 sq. ft. Common House w/ guest room, kid room
	        •	Common meals 1-2x week
	        •	½ mile from New Brighton beach, the Cabrillo farmer’s market and Cabrillo College
	        •	Right on the bus line
	        •	Kid’s play area
	        •	Good school system
	        •	Community garden

Currently, we are a community of 13 adults and 5 children, 4 cats and a rabbit. Our age range is 3 - 65. Our potential has not yet been met, as we are yet to improve our Common House, making it more comfortable and attractive for community activities. However, in the Common House we already have group meals, a guest room, a kid’s room, meetings and fun social activities. In the summer, most of our social activities focus on the deck or central courtyard. New Brighton Cohousing is blessed with cooks, gardeners, crafters, bicyclists, musicians, dancers and our very own construction crew (ages 3-7). There is always someone around to lend a cup of sugar, a sympathetic ear, a wrench, or advice on how to fix anything from computers to leaky faucets.
Santa Cruz County is home to the University of California, Santa Cruz, Cabrillo College, a vibrant local music, art and dance scene, and a wealth of beautiful state and county parks.
