In early 2001, a series of serendipitous events made it clear that offering a transportation service to the community of Bonners Ferry was an opportunity to meet an unmet need. Transportation to medical appointments was and continues to be a particularly dire need. North Country Transportation Services, Inc (NCTSI) began in response to this need.  As a MEDICAID AUTHORIZED COMMERCIAL TRANSPORTATION PROVIDER for the State of Idaho, we are reimbursed by the state for transporting eligible Idaho Medicaid recipients to medical appointments at no cost to them. Caregivers for the elderly and disabled are welcome to ride along at no cost. Currently operating with three regular drivers, along with office support staff, NCTSI has developed remarkably since our beginning in 2001. Our Sandpoint service operates as often as twice a day from Bonners Ferry to the Sandpoint area, while daily trips to Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls or Spokane are the destination points for our other clients. We operate on a demand-response basis and offer door-to-door service. We offer scheduling and coordination of appointments so that multiple clients will have a minimal wait time both before and after their appointments. We are transportation providers for State and Federal agencies (i.e. Worker’s Compensation, Vocational Rehabilitation). In addition, we provide transportation to the Spokane International Airport and many other destinations for private paying clients. We keep busy: our vans logged over 90,000 miles in 2006!  We are pleased that we have been able to meet the transportation needs of many in our community whom we now count as friends, and we look forward to doing so for years to come.
