Changes are an inevitable part of life. Some changes are ones we seek and even engineer for ourselves, such as marriage, birth of a child, graduation from school, a new job or home or career. Even these changes can be stressful. But the changes we have the most trouble with are the ones out of our control, ones we would not choose - serious illness, death of a loved one, loss of a job or career, threats to an important relationship. It is then that the trajectory of our life takes a sudden turn onto a different path. The terrain along this unfamiliar, unlooked-for path can be very rough, and we feel frightened, angry, devastated, anxious, depressed. We have lost our way.
Another truism is that each of us has inner wisdom and strengths, often unrecognized by us until such a tough time arises. A psychotherapist can help us access that inner strength and wisdom so that we can find our way again.
Life is a journey - each of us has our own journey to take, in our own time, in our own way. A psychotherapist can be the helper we need on this part of the journey.
The Journey
