Baby Shoes
Continuing on the baby kick, here is the first of a pair of baby booties from 50 Baby Bootees to Knit.  It’s a very simple pattern, but there is some seaming to do to get the above piece shaped into a little mary jane shoe.

I had to go down a needle size or two to get gauge.  Is this because I’m using a fine gauge cotton?  I usually get gauge with the recommended needle size when using a wool or wool blend.  Even the worsted weight cottons don’t vary so much.  But with Jaeger Siena (in a pretty lavender), I’m getting 26 sts over 4” on a 3mm needle, instead of the needed 28 sts.  I decided to keep going, rather than rip back.  This pair can go to a slightly older baby.  The next pair will be done on 2.5mm needles to get the right gauge.
