Today I was sitting in the den reading the newspaper about 12:15 PM when the phone rang. It was Carla Start, informing me that someone had just run their car into the side of the BLT, and it was sitting inside the arena. Mary Lou and I grabbed our phones and a camera and dashed to the car to go see what we could do. What we found was well beyond what we had expected. The Baytown police, fire department, and a wrecker were already on the scene. There was no ambulance in sight, having already taken the driver to the hospital, even though the people there told us it had just happened about 10-15 minutes before. Within another few minutes, the theater was swarming with members, including director of the current production, Titanic, the Musical, set to open July 27. A quick view of the photos taken on the scene will easily show you that an opening night at the theater on that date is probably unlikely, but the Board, under the leadership of Anne Dickens, who was on the scene very quickly, will be making plans and arrangements in the near future for a successful opening of this production, and the opening of our new season in September.
