Brasil Womens Cup

Just 400km’s above Rio de Janeiro in the bay of the ‘Praia do Canto’ the first version of the Brasil Women’s Cup is held from 8 - 12 November. This is an event comparable to the Portugal Women’s Cup sailed on SM40’s. The winner will be invited to compete in the grade 1 men’s Brasil Sailing Cup! It is combined with the Men’s event starting on Tuesday.

There are seven teams ready to race, they are from the United States, France, Argentina, Brazil and ourselves from the Netherlands. The event started congratulating Claire Leroy with her well deserved World Sailor of the Year! Due to some problems with Customs the preparation of the boats needed more time, therefore racing has been postponed by one day.

The Dutch women, who are currently ranked 3rd on the World Match Racing rankings, are taking part in the World Match Racing Championships from 6 tot 11 August in France. The races are being held on the Brittany coast near St Quay in the First Class 8 boat.

The team just returned from Portugal where they took part in the Portugal Womens Cup, 40 km from Lisbon in Troia. Klaartje zuiderbaan, Trijntje Zuiderbaan, Nanda Nengerman, Anita van Oeveren en de Engelse Vicky Lenz came fourth. Petronella de Jong replaced Saskia Samama who could not take part due to illness.

3rd in Spain!

After sailing a strong Round Robin we secured a place in the semi-finals, where Team Leroy was to be the stronger opponent. But we fought back well to win 3-0 to become 3rd overall.

Next event is the Portugal Womens Cup in July where we will be racing in the Swedish Match 40’s.
