Richard Schneider, High School and Middle School Principal at Hamlin School in Hayti, SD is our SDAEOP Administrator of the Year. He was unable to attend the ceremony as he was at Camp Rapid serving our country. His wife and daughter accepted the award for him.
Mr. Schneider models leadership in the educational field to both staff and students. Every activity he choses promotes professional growth and stimulation. He establishes guidelines for and encourages open communications between teachers, students, parents and administration.
Mr. Schneider promotes the Career Center/Multi-District opportunities outside the walls of Hamlin School for students wishing to learn trades. He requires the submission of weekly lesson plans and curriculum maps for all subjects from all teachers. He drops by unannounced into the classrooms and for pre-arranged observations to keep himself updated on what is going on in the classrooms.
Mr. Schneider interjects humor whenever possible. He accepts the challenges that come to him with discipline and vigor. He is very open to questions and will drop what he is doing to help a staff person or student even though his schedule is the most demanding in the school. Mr. Schneider was chosen as Regional Principal of the Year.
His involvement in the SD National Guards and his church-related activities sends a message to his staff and students that civic and community service is important. Before making a decision, Mr. Schneider puts a lot of thought into it, and once it’s finally made, he stands behind it.
Richard Schneider exemplifies the qualities and characteristics of a strong, dedicated educational leader. His dedication to his staff, students and education is witnessed every day. He sets high standards not only for himself, but for all of us so that we all may become the best that we can be.
Unfortunately for Hamlin, Mr. Schneider will be leaving Hamlin High School to take a position in Harrisburg. We will miss him!
