AKI in his Cadillac
AKI in his Cadillac
Aki v.d. Londorfer Kapelle was born in Germany on June 2, 1996. For most of his long life, he was a very healthy, active and happy dog. Swimming in the river, romping in the snow and going for long hikes with his gang were some of his favorite activities.
Berner fanciers from around the world knew him as a strikingly beautiful show dog. Similarly, breeders knew him as a very successful stud dog, producing many lovely puppies. Not so well known, but equally important to his community was Aki's service as an enthusiastic search and rescue dog.
When Aki reached eleven years old, his hind legs gradually weakened to the extent that he needed a bit of support to walk. To give him more comfort, we bought a wheelchair for him. Enabled by his new set of wheels, Aki continued many of his beloved activities. A highlight for him was attending the Swiss Jubilee Dog Show in Burgdorf, Switzerland in August, 2007. Although Aki was no longer able to go into the show ring, he did enjoy strolling around the show grounds and flirting with the beautiful Berner ladies. And, believe it or not, the ladies were delighted by the attention of this distinguished and mature Berner Boy as he strolled by in his "Cadillac."
Alas, his time with us was too short. Aki died on November 3, 2007, enjoying his life to the last minute.
