Behind The Scenes
It is possible to act with little or no props, scenery, lighting or even a stage, but in practice most conventional theatre is done using a stage setting and a panoply of facilities and skills however basic they may be. Although NADS are an amateur theatre group it is a microcosm of what you would expect to find in professional theatre and although there may be less backstage personnel there are still many of the same technical roles.

If you decide to join NADS or NADYS you can choose what you are most interested in doing and we will do our best to give you opportunities to develop those interests. However we regularly swap roles to try new things or to help out where there is a shortage of crew.
The requirements for each production will vary so we all need to be flexible to make it a success.
Because we are all volunteers this is possible to do so. Some of the key roles are normally done by certain people simply because they have the technical skills or level of experience needed but they still need assistance and the thus we can train members to take on those tasks in the future.
Teamwork is the name of the game and members who are very committed elsewhere still find time to come and help out, even the actors do their bit to support the backstage effort.
If you know of any one with carpentry skills please can you ask them if they would like to be involved with setbuilding with us?
At the moment we have just one set carpenter which really isn’t enough for the amount of work there is to do!
